Our Purpose and Values

At a glance

Glencore is one of the world's largest global and diversified natural resource companies, and a major producer and trader of responsibly sourced commodities that advance everyday life.

We have had a presence in in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) since 2007. We manage two industrial copper and cobalt operations, Kamoto Copper Company SA (KCC) – a partnership with Gécamines (20% shareholding) and SIMCO (5% shareholding) – and Mutanda Mining SARL (MUMI) – in which the DRC government holds a 5% stake – both located in the Lualaba province of the DRC.

We maintain and foster a constructive and open dialogue with our host communities, as well as with the regional and national government.

To date, we have invested over USD 8 billion in MUMI and KCC’s development. At the end of 2022, our operations employed more than 8,700 people and had 7,650 contractors. 95% of our employees come from local communities.
